St. Paul in 1887; and in 1890 was admitted to the bar. In 1895 he <br />
was elected corporation attorney for the city of St. Paul. <br />

            <description><![CDATA[ DALRYMPLE, OLIVER, bonanza farmer, b. in Warren county, Pa., in <br />
1830; d. in Casselton, N. D., Sept. 3, 1908. He studied at Yale Col- <br />
lege and later at Yale Law School; was admitted to the bar in 1855; <br />
came to Minnesota in 1856; settled in St. Paul in 1860; engaged in <br />
extensive farming operations after 1866, cultivating 2,500 acres in <br />
Washington county for ten years; and after 1876 he developed much <br />
larger tracts in the Red river valley in North Dakota, amounting to <br />
about 30,000 acres devoted to wheat growing, probably the largest <br />
wheat farm in the world. <br />

40,000 acre farm of his uncle, Oliver Dalrymple, and also his steam- <br />
boats and grain elevators; resided in St. Paul after 1886. <br />

settled in St. Paul in 1878, and was pastor of Plymouth church ten <br />
years; removed to Lowell, Mass., in 1888; author of a &quot;History of <br />
Carleton College,&quot; and &quot;Annals of Norwich, Conn., 1861-65.&quot; For sev- <br />
eral years he was one of the editors of the Advance, published in <br />
Chicago. <br />

ward as captain and assistant quartermaster; engaged in manufac- <br />
turing flour and lumber in Anoka, and also in publishing the Anoka <br />
City Herald. Later he practiced as a magnetic physician in St. Paul. <br />

age; lived at Fort Snelling, 1835-42; settled in St. Paul the latter year; <br />
raised the first flag there on Christmas day, 1842; built the first house <br />
with a shingled-roof in this city; opened a store, and also cultivated <br />
forty acres of land. <br />

            <description><![CDATA[ MOORE, JOSEPH KNIGHT, journalist, b. in Enfield, Mass., Feb. 17 1828; <br />
d. in Los Angeles, Cal., Feb. 3, 1906. He came to Minnesota in 1859, <br />
settling in St. Peter, where during many years he was postmaster. He <br />
at first purchased an interest in the Free Press, and in 1860 founded the <br />
Tribune; was private secretary to Governor McGill, 1887-9; residing in <br />
St. Paul; removed to California in 1894. <br />

extensive. After 1867 he engaged in insurance, banking, and railroad <br />
enterprises. <br />

            <description><![CDATA[ BURBANK, HENRY CLAY, b. in Lewis, N. Y., May 4, 1835; d. in Roch- <br />
ester, Minn., Feb. 23, 1905. He came to St. Paul in 1853; with his <br />
brother, James C. Burbank, engaged in forwarding and commission <br />
business, and wholesale grocery busmess, The firm transported sup- <br />
plies and furs for the Hudson Bay Company, and owned wagon trains <br />
and steamboats on the Red River of the North. He was a state sen- <br />
ator in 1873. <br />
