HELTNE, JOHN C., farmer, Vernon Township, Section 8, is a native of Vernon Township
and was born
Aug. 21, 1861. He was raised on a farm and educated in the district schools. His
parents are
Christopher C. and Cheste J. Heltne, early pioneer settlers of Vernon Township. In
1881 our subject was
united in marriage to Nellie Maria Berge, daughter of Svend and Dorthe (Quallle)
Berge, pioneers of
Vernon Township, and to this union four children have been born of whom three
survive as follows:
Cordee S., Constance D., and Denfield S. Mr. Heltne is a member of the Norwegian
Lutheran Church. In
politics he affiliates with the Republicans. He has been prominent in the affairs if
his township, having
held the positions of Township Assessor three years and of County Commissioner, in
which last named
position he at presently officiates. Mr. Heltne owns a valuable farm in Vernon
Township, and by honesty
and industry has made himself potent in the affairs of Dodge County. [page 107]
