THORSNESS, OLIVER, dealer in lumber and builders' supplies, Hayfield, was born in
Columbia County,
Wis., Oct. 11, 1859. His parents, Ole O. and Bertha (Peterson) Thorsness, moved with
their family, to
Vernon township, this county, in 1862. Our subject grew to manhood there, and came
to Hayfield in
1890 and engaged in the lumber business, since which time he has resided there. He
received his
education in the district schools of Vernon, and in private study at home. He was
married in 1890 to
Miss Jennie Gilbertson, Rock Dell, Minn. She died three years later, and in 1895 Mr.
Thorsness married
Etta Jolliffe, of West Union, Ia. Mr. and Mrs. Thorsness are the parents of four
children, of whom the
following survive: Elma R., Ordelia M. and Orvel A. The family are identified with
the Lutheran Church.
He always votes the Republican ticket. Mr. Thorsness is one of the active
progressive men of Dodge
County. He is the owner of one of the largest stocks of lumber, lath, shingles and
builders' supplies in
Southern Minnesota and his business integrity has won to him the confidence of the
public and has
given him a high standing as a citizen of the community. [page 119]
