DAVID S. ESTILL, editor of the Owingsville Outlook, was born in Fleming
County, Ky., March 2, 1845. His father, Sylvester Estill, also a native of
Fleming County, engaged in the tanning business when young in his native
county, and has followed the same in connection with farming all his life;
he is still living at the advanced age of eighty. He is a son of William
Estill, who came to Kentucky from New Jersey at an early date and settled in
what is now Fleming County, where he lived, and died. January 3, 1833.
Sylvester Estill married Eliza Thompson, who bore him seven children, viz:
Martha J., Nancy A., Lucinda, Mary F., William S., John S. and David S.
Mrs. Eliza Estill died May 12, 1847, and October 7, 1849, Mr. Estill married
Elizabeth McKiney. To this union were born six children, viz: Eliza, James
M., Thomas J., Andrew J., Sarah B. and Sylvester D. David S. Estill, the
youngest child by his first marriage was brought up on the farm and received
his education in Fleming County. He followed farming until 1870, when he
engaged in the mercantile business at Wyoming, Bath County, remaining one
year; in 1871 he moved to Owingsville and engaged in business under the firm
name of Coyle & Estill, until 1876, at which time he sold out and was
engaged in no regular business until 1884, when he moved to Lexington, Ky.,
and was engaged in the nursery and floral business until 1887; he then
returned to Owingsville and purchased an interest in the Owingsville
Outlook, a Democratic organ, of which he is editor. November 13, 1867, he
married Miss Elizabeth Honaker, a daughter of Martin and Nancy (England)
Honaker, of Bath County. To this union have been born two children: Charles
W. and Annie, both of whom died in infancy. Mr. Estill is a member of the
Christian Church, as well as of the F. & A.M. fraternity. In political
affairs he affiliates with the Democrats.
