NICHOLAS TALBOT was born in Bourbon County, Ky., October 21, 1831. He
is the eldest of thirteen children born to Courtney and Elizabeth (Harp)
Talbot. Courtney Talbot was born September 3, 1804, in Bourbon County,
Ky., where he lived until 1835, when he moved to Fayette County, near
Lexington. In 1863 he moved to Montgomery County, Ind., where he died
October 12, 1867. He was a son of Nicholas Talbot, who was a native of
Virginia, and came to Kentucky with his father, Samuel Talbot, and
settled at Boonesborough, Clark County, where he live and died.
Elizabeth Harp was a daughter of John and Leah (Ritter) Harp, natives
of Fayette County, Ky. Elizabeth Harp and Courtney Talbot were married
December 16, 1830, in Fayette County, Ky. Courtney Talbot's mother,
who was born May 10, 1781, and died January 6, 1861, was a daughter of
John Kennedy, a soldier in the Revolutionary war, who was taken
prisoner, and died on board a British ship. The following are the
names of the thirteen children born to Courtney and Elizabeth Talbot:
Nicholas, Elizabeth, Emily, John, Margaret, Rebecca, Henry, Area, Nancy
M., Franklin B., Warren, Alice and Daniel W. Of these Elizabeth, Nancy,
Area, John, Alice and Franklin are deceased. Nicholas Talbot was
brought up on the farm, and received a very common school education.
He remained with his father until twenty-two years of age, when he was
married, December 1, 1853, to Mary M. Penn, a daughter of Joseph and
Margaret (Huttsell) Penn, of Bourbon County. Joseph Penn was a native
of Bourbon County, born November 17, 1807, where he lived a farmer,
and died February 5, 1881. He was a descendant of William Penn.
Nicholas Talbot lived in Bourbon County until 1872, when he moved to
Boone County, and settled where he now resides. He owns 200 acres of
land. Four children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Talbot--three
daughters and one son--viz: Annie P., Courtney C., Mattie J., and
Elizabeth. Mr. Talbot is a member of the F. & A. M. and also a member
of the I.O.O.F. Politically he is a Republican.
