JAMES F. JETT was born in Carroll County, Ky., June 28, 1847, and is a son
of Richard and Elizabeth (Bradley) Jett, natives of Virginia and Maryland,
respectively. Richard Jett moved to Carroll County when very young, with
his father, William Jett, who was a shoemaker by trade. Richard Jett
settled in Carrollton in 1845 or 1846, where he engaged in distilling, and
died in 1870. In 1881 James F. Jett, with his brothers, Albert N., Josiah
S. and George W., built the present distillery, a frame building 30 x 50
feet, with a capacity of 326 bushels per day, which is run about four
months in the year; they manufacture sour mash whiskey, which is sold
principally in Cincinnati, the sales amounting to about 2,000 barrels per
year. In 1879 James F. Jett married Albertine Anders, a native of
Effingham County, Ill. Mr. Jett is a member of the I.O.O.F. and a
Democrat.
