HUGH KARINS was born in Ireland, March 10, 1834, the seventh of twelve
children born to Andrew and Catherine (Rice) Karins, also natives of
Ireland. He immigrated to America in 1851, located in Louisville, and
engaged in the marble business. He then went to Carrollton, where he
continued in the marble business until 1885. In that year he was
appointed Unties States storekeeper, and in June, 1866, was appointed
storekeeper and gauger. He was elected representative in Carroll County
in 1879 and served until 1880. In 1870 he married Miss Ella M. Boggess,
who was born in Bourbon County, August 25, 1837, and to this union was
born one child, Deddie Ella. Mr. Karins is a member of the Methodist
Church South, and is also a member of the Masonic fraternity, also of
the I.O.O.F., and the F. & A. M. Politically he is a Democrat.
