MRS. B. E. STROUD (Now Mrs. M. E. Cravens): Mrs. M. E. Cravens,
formerly Mrs. B. E. Stroud, was born in McLean County, Kentucky, on
September 14, 1875, and is the daughter of Jesse and Levisa McMurtry
Jackson. She attended the common schools at hand and also the
Owensboro Female College. She was converted at the age of thirteen
and united with the Glenville Methodist Church. After her marriage
to Mr. Stroud and their removal to Owensboro she united with the
Walnut Street Baptist Church and was baptized by Rev. J. R. Hobbs.
She served as Superintendent of the Associational W. M. U. for
four years and in that time attended a number of the State and
Southveide meetings of the W. M. U. She has also served as president
of the W. M. S of the Walnut Street Church and other offices in this
work. She has taught the T. E. L. Class at the same Church for five
She married Mr. B. E. Stroud in 1895. The ceremony was
performed in the Glenville Baptist Church and Rev. R. Y. Thomas
officiated. Two sons and one daughter were born to this union. Mr.
Stroud died in 1937 and in the year 1939 she became Mrs. M. E.
For several years she had charge of the Y. W. C. A. in
Owensboro and for the past eight years has served as the matron of a
school lunch room in the city. She is an active and consecrated
Christian woman loved and respected by many.
