1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN WAITE: Pastor B. F. Waite was born at Newman,
Daviess County, Kentucky, on March 12, 1894, and is the son of
Abraham Lincoln and Jeannette Waite. He was converted at the age of
seventeen while sitting on a mail truck in front of the Union Station
at Owensboro, Kentucky, and was baptized into the fellowship of the
Newman Baptist Church by Rev. W. L. Shearer.
In his youth he labored on a farm and served as a grocery clerk
and shoe salesman. He also attended school as opportunity afforded,.
being a student in LaRue College and the Daviess County Business
College. After answering the call of the Lord to preach the Gospel
he attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville,
Kentucky, taking the English Bible course offered at that
institution.
In the year 1920 he answered the call of God to preach but
resisted keenly these impressions for four years. He finally
surrendered to this call in 1924 and was licensed to preach by his
home Church. On August 3, 1924, he was ordained to the ministry by
this same Church, by a presbytery composed of Revs. W. O. Connell, W.
K. Sisk, and William Varble. He was immediately called to the care
of Mt. Olive Church in Union County, Kentucky. Since that time he
has served the following Churches: Deanefield, and Concord, in Ohio
County; Cash Creek and Hebbardsville, in Henderson County; and
Curdsville, Macedonia, and Hall Street Churches in Daviess County.
The last mentioned pastorate was the most successful to date in his
entire ministry. The membership grew from about 185 to 700 in the
twelve years, 1930 to 1942, that he served the Church. Many needed
improvements were made and the building cleared of all indebtedness.
The present basement to the building was completed during the last
year of his pastorate there. Since October, 1943, he has been pastor
of the Church at Truman, Arkansas.
The ministry of Brother Waite has been consistently
evangelistic. He has held over fifty evangelistic meetings in about
thirty Churches in this and surrounding counties and the conversions
may be numbered in the hundreds. The author is glad to be numbered
among the two young men who have answered the call to preach under
his ministry. Rev. Robert Shaver of Hawesville, Kentucky, was
converted under his ministry. The author was licensed by the Hall
Street Church in July, 1936, and ordained in March, 1937.
Brother Waite preached the doctrinal sermon before the
Association in 1938 and the annual sermon in 1940. He also served on
several important committees in connection with the work of the
District Mission Board and made several reports on different subjects
to the Association.
He was married to Miss Alma Laymen, the daughter of William and
Mary Ann Laymen, of Sorgho, Kentucky, on November 24, 1913. Five
children have blessed their home, Hazel, Virginia Ruth, Mary Joe, and
Alma Truett, all girls and one son, Alan Ray.
The warm evangelistic heart of Rev. B. F. Waite has been a
blessing to multitudes and the many who have been led to the Lord
under his ministry are indeed trophies of the grace of God and speak
well of his untiring efforts to reach the multitudes with the Gospel
of Christ. He is a good minister of Jesus Christ.
