JAMES D. McMILLAN was born in Gallatin, now Grant County, Ky., June 26,
1856, and is the second son of Abram and Dulcinea (Kuhn) McMillan, natives
of Virginia, the former now living in Kansas, immigrated to Gallatin.
James D. McMillan was reared in Grant County, attended college at
Harrisburg, Owen County, in 1875-77, and taught the intermediate studies
of the college one year. In 1879-80 he taught a private school at
Tentonville, Ark., and returning to Grant County, now teaches school
during the fall and winter, and farms in the summer. He owns thirty-five
acres of land, was deputy sheriff in 1881-82 under C. Vallandingham, and
is now magistrate. In 1878 he married Miss Lizzie Thompson, daughter of
Ed Portor Thompson, a prominent educator of Owen County. She died in
1879 and in 1882 Mr. McMillan married Miss Barbara E. Clark, of Grant
County, daughter of Bryan P. and Mary F. (Webb) Clark, natives respectively
of Grant County, Ky., and North Carolina. Three children have been born
to them: Marcella Kate, Albert C. and Elbert P.
