Hardin Co.

FRANK P. STRICKLER, physician, was born at Elizabethtown, Ky., August 20,
1855. His father, George W. Strickler, was born in 1794, in Williamsport,
Md., and in childhood came with his widowed mother to Bardstown, Ky. They
moved from thence to Cincinnati, Ohio, where George W. learned the trade of
tailor, to which many years of his after life were devoted. He came to
Elizabethtown in the year 1829. His first marriage was to a Miss Nancy
Peck, of Virginia. She died in Elizabethtown in 1832, leaving two
children, viz.: George W. Strickler, of Hardin County (see sketch), and
Elizabeth, since deceased. His second wife, who still survives him, was
Miss Ellen C. Johnson. This union resulted in the birth of seven children,
as follows: Mary, deceased wife of S. B. Smith, of Alabama; William, died
in childhood; Margaret, wife of James McConnell, of La Rue [sic] County;
Andrew Jackson, Frank P., Jennie and Ella, the last two being dead. George
W. Strickler continued to reside in Elizabethtown while able to pursue his
trade, but later in life he retired to a farm near town, where his widow
and son, Andrew J., still reside. He was an influential Democrat, a member
of the Masonic fraternity and of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in the
faith of which he trustingly died, in May, 1877. Dr. Frank P. Strickler
was educated in his native town, read medicine in the office of Dr. R. B.
Pusey, and entered the medical department of the University of Louisville,
Ky., in 1875, graduating in the class of 1877. He at once engaged in the
active practice in Elizabethtown, where he has continued with pronounced
success. He is an official member of the Hardin County Medical
Association, and stands high in the estimation of his professional
brethren. He married, in Jefferson County, Ky., in 1881, Anna, daughter of
Capt. Ed. Jones. She was born in New Orleans, though reared in Jefferson
County. Their children are Jennie L. and Edward J. Strickler.
