JOHN T. MIDDELTON was born in Shelby County, Ky., December 23, 1836, and
is a son of Adam and Mary (Willis) Middelton, also natives of Shelby
County. His grandfather, Adam Middelton, one of the early settlers of
Shelby County, came from Virginia and settled on a farm five miles from
Shelbyville, on the old State Pike. His grandfather, Pierson Willis, also
from Virginia, settled on a farm about four miles northeast of the city.
John T. Middelton left the home farm in 1866 to act as clerk in a private
banking house until the organization of the Farmers' and Traders' Bank,
in 1871, with J. D. Guthrie as president and J. F. Caldwell as cashier,
and with an authorized capital stock of $150,000. Mr. Guthrie was
superseded by J. F. Caldwell as president in 1873, and Mr. Middelton
succeeded Mr. Caldwell as cashier. In the fall of 1882 J. A. Middelton
became president, and is the present incumbent. December 17, 1868,
J. T. Middelton married Mrs. Carrie Burkhardst, nee McKinney, and has
had born to him three children: Mary W., Lizzie E. and Anna V.
