WILLIAM E. RYON, M. D., of Simpsonville, was born in Winchester, Clark
County, Ky., July 8, 1842, and is a son of John B. and Lucy S.
(Throckmorton) Ryon, natives of Kentucky, and of English descent, and
married in about the year 1830, and had born the them seven children--five
daughters and two sons. William E., the fifth child born to their union,
was reared on the farm, and received a common-school education. He
followed farming until eighteen years of age, after which time he commenced
the study of medicine under Dr. H. G. Duerson, of Oldham County, In 1861
he entered the University of Louisville, and in 1863 graduated in medicine
from the Medical College of Ohio at Cincinnati. He then located in Shelby
County, at Todd's Point, and practiced his profession until 1870, at which
time he moved to Simpsonville, where he has been constantly engaged in the
practice of his profession ever since. Oct 3, 1866, he married Amelia C.
Fontaine, youngest daughter of Massena and Matilda (Pomeroy) Fontaine.
There have been born to their union three sons: John F., William T. and
Albion P. The family are members of the Christian Church, and politically
the Doctor is a Democrat.
