In May of 1997, the U.S. Biographies project was organized by Jeff Murphy, using the established KY Biographies Project as a model. State coordinators were sought to set up their own state project. They were offered the system design and tools created for the KY project, but were free to set up their project in any way they chose.
Deb Murray took over the project in 1999 and served as the coordinator until October 2006 when she stepped down and Nathan Zipfel assumed the role of coordinator.
We thank Jeff and Deb for the time and effort that the put into the project to get it going and to develop it over the nearly ten years of its existence.
