G. W. Russell, 71, Pear Valley, native Texan, was born December 20, 1854,
in Burnet County. Locating in McCulloch 40 years ago, he first settled
in the southwestern part of the county; then resided in the Nine community
for some nine years, and for the past 31 years has made his home in the
Pear Valley section, where he owns and operates a 715-acre ranch, running
both cattle and sheep besides farming on an extensive scale. Mrs.
Russell passed away May 6, 1932.
Mr. Russell recalls many interesting events of early days. He traded for many years with Jeff Wood, one of Brady's merchants of the early days, and Dr. J. B. Lockhart was his first family physician.
Mr. Russell's family consists of ten children, five boys, Walter and Joe of Salt Gap, and Arthur, Lawson and Jim Russell of Pear Valley, and five girls, Mrs. J. W. Lackey and Mrs. Guy Sallee of Calf Creek, Mrs. B. M. Joyce of Salt Gap, Mrs. I. J. Young of Miles and Mrs. L. C. Huffman of Menard.
