David went with his parents on a cattle drive to Colorado Territory in 1870, when he was seventeen years old.  They stayed three years.  David inherited a tract of land from his father.  He and his wife, Melissa, purchased enough land to make a nice little ranch.  He could have bought more land across the fence from his at $2.00 and acre.  Land had been 50 cents per acre in the earlier years, and .10 per acre along Brady Creek and in the Brady mountains.
