J. R. Winstead, Sr., 68, is a native of Columbus, Miss., where he
was born March 7, 1868. He came to McCulloch County in November
1884; therefore, he has rounded out more than a half century here.
From 1888 to 1921, he operated a large general store at Waldrip, also serving as postmaster there throughout this time. In the early '20's he came to Brady and was engaged in the grocery business here until his retirement in August, 1934.
Mrs. J.R. Winstead, Sr., 65, was born August 3, 1870, at historic San Jacinto, Texas, her maiden name having been Miss Louise Preston. She came to McCulloch in 1880, thus having lived here for over 55 years. She and Mr. Winstead were married at Waldrip, May 20, 1891. They have three children, John Winstead, Jr., and Mrs. Bert L. Hughes of Brady, and Mrs. Marjorie Nantz of Fort Worth.
